We teach children from age 2 to 12. Our weekly small-group classes start at age 3; children aged 2 to 3 learn in private one-to-one lessons, which are arranged around your schedule rather than following the weekly timetable. Our holiday culture camps are designed for children aged 4–10. If your child sits just outside those ranges, message us and we'll advise on the best fit.

No. Level 1 is for complete beginners. The focus is on listening and building familiarity through songs, stories and everyday themes such as food, school and animals, with the content shaped around each child's interests. From Level 2 children start speaking and reading, and Level 3 adds writing and Hanyu Pinyin. See the full course levels.

Camps are different: they run entirely in Mandarin and suit children who already have a basic level of Chinese.

Group classes are capped at 6 children, so every child gets to speak in every lesson. In practice most run smaller than that. Three to five is common. If you want to know how many children are in a particular class right now, just ask and we'll tell you. One-to-one private lessons are also available.

To confirm: Confirm 6 is the published maximum, and that we're happy to keep quoting live class sizes to enquiring parents (Ana does this routinely over WhatsApp).

Group classes run between 90 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the group, on weekday afternoons and at weekends. The weekly schedule lists each slot's exact times. We teach year round rather than in terms, though slots do change from time to time, so message us to confirm what's running for your child's age. Private lessons aren't on that timetable. Their day, time and length are agreed with you.

Our programme runs across four levels, steadily building listening, speaking, reading, writing and Hanyu Pinyin. We teach language and culture together: daily-life themes, traditional festivals, classic children's songs, poems and stories, so Chinese becomes something children use, not just study. The course levels table lists the skills and teaching materials at each level.

We teach Simplified characters, using materials including Little Elephant Chinese Characters, Little Lamb Goes Up the Mountain and China domestic-use Chinese textbooks. Hanyu Pinyin is introduced from Level 3, alongside reading and writing.

Yes, and they're the right fit for children who need a different pace, a specific focus, or times that don't work with the group timetable. They're also how our youngest learners start, since group classes begin at age 3 and private lessons are available from age 2. Private lessons have no fixed schedule: we agree a day and time with you and can adjust it as your routine changes. More about private lessons.

We teach in person, at our centre. With young children, face-to-face simply works better. They learn through games, movement, stories and time in the garden, none of which survives a screen, so online lessons aren't something we offer.

To confirm: Ana's position in past conversations is "in person is preferred because it's just so much better result, especially for kids". Home visits are no longer offered, so the answer no longer mentions them.

We're not an exam-preparation centre. Our programme uses China mainland teaching materials and is built around getting children to use Chinese through stories, songs, games, festivals and daily-life themes, because a child who enjoys the language keeps going long after the drilling stops.

Children from both local and international schools come to us alongside their school Chinese, and what they build here feeds straight back into it: vocabulary, confidence speaking, reading and writing. If what you need is specific help with school Chinese homework, we can arrange private tutoring for that.

To confirm: Grounded in how Ana positions us in parent conversations (exam-drilled teaching puts children off; we teach mainland materials, not the MOE syllabus). Confirm how firmly to say "we don't do exam prep" — some parents approach us wanting exactly that. Also confirm we still take on school-homework help as a one-to-one at the centre; the at-home version of it has been discontinued.

Classes are taught by founder Ana Huang (黄志勤) and our team of teachers, who are from China and speak authentic Putonghua. Ana teaches some of the classes herself, and leads camps together with the team.

All our teachers also speak English. Lessons run around 95% in Chinese, with English kept for explaining a specific word or stepping in when a child genuinely can't follow, so a child who isn't confident yet never gets stuck. Read more about us.

To confirm: Rewritten from Ana's own wording to parents ("all of our teachers are from China and speak authentic Putonghua"; "we speak 95% of the time in Chinese"). The previous version claimed degrees in Chinese language or education — that wasn't evidenced anywhere, so it's been dropped. Restore it only if it's true of every teacher.

Every class and camp runs at our centre at 10 Winstedt Road, Block A #01-06, Singapore 227977. That is about an 8-minute walk from Newton MRT, with a 3000+ sqf permaculture garden used for outdoor learning. That includes private one-to-one lessons.

There is parking inside the compound, charged by the hour at around S$1 per half hour (a little more on weekday lunchtimes). Most families find the MRT easiest.

To confirm: Parking rate is what the landlord quoted us (S$1 per half hour, higher weekday 1–2pm) — confirm it hasn't changed before this goes live, since it's now published. Home-based lessons are no longer offered, so the answer says every class runs at the centre.

Our centre is on the ground floor, and it has two exits, a front door and a rear door. There are no stairs to get down and no single way out, which is what most parents have in mind when they ask.

Children are supervised throughout, including when they're taken to the toilet, and at the start of a camp week teachers go through the safety rules with the group.

If there's anything you'd like to see for yourself before your child starts, come and look. We'd much rather you did.

To confirm: Only a handful of parents have raised this, but one was close to withdrawing their child after the Newton shophouse fire — worth answering in public. The facts here are the ones we know about 10 Winstedt: ground floor, front and rear exits. Confirm what else we want to state (extinguishers, alarms, drills, first-aid training) and that a teacher always accompanies children to the toilet.

Group classes are charged per 1½-hour lesson: S$97.50 with one of our teachers, or S$112.50 for a class taught by Ana herself.

Private one-to-one lessons are S$110 an hour with one of our teachers, or S$140 an hour with Ana.

Lessons are bought in packages of 10, for example S$975 for ten group lessons, and deducted as your child attends. Textbooks are separate.

The real decision is whether we publish rates on the site at all — the alternative is "fees depend on the class and the teacher, message us for a quote". Also confirm the rates are still current.

Yes, and we'd rather you did. The most useful time to come is while a class or camp is actually running, so you see the real thing rather than an empty room. Just after a lesson ends is usually best, when a teacher is free to show you round and answer your questions.

To confirm: Ana always says yes to this and usually suggests coming right after a class. Confirm we're happy to invite visitors while a class is in session, and whether there are times we'd rather people didn't come.

Yes, and we always recommend one before deciding. We'd rather your child sat in a real class than took our word for it. Before the trial we'll send you our student information form so the teacher knows your child's level and interests, and we'll lend a textbook for the lesson so there's nothing to buy in advance.

A trial is charged at the same rate as a regular class of the same type.

If it turns out not to be the right fit, that's genuinely fine. Take your time to look at your options.

To confirm: Ana's line to parents is "we always recommend a trial class first before deciding", and "the trial fee is the same as a regular class". Two things to settle: one message offers a shorter 1-hour group trial at S$75 — is that still on offer? — and whether the trial fee is credited if the child then enrols (past invoices suggest it isn't).

Message us on WhatsApp or send an enquiry. We'll ask your child's age and how much Chinese they already have. A short video or photo of your child speaking is the quickest way for us to judge the level. Then we recommend a class, usually starting with a trial.

We then send you our student information form. Once it's completed we email an invoice, and your child's place is confirmed when payment is received.

We email you a Stripe invoice, which you pay by PayNow using the "Pay online" button on it. A bank transfer works too.

We don't take credit cards yet.

Lessons are bought as a package of 10, paid up front, and each class your child attends is deducted from the balance. We top it up when it runs low, and you can ask us what's left at any time.

A package isn't refundable, but it can be transferred or paused, so a long trip abroad doesn't cost you the balance.

Let us know as early as you can. The quickest way is to message us on WhatsApp; families whose children have started also get an absence form that takes under a minute to fill in. Our cancellation terms are:

12 hours' notice or more: no charge.
3 to 12 hours' notice: a S$30 late-cancellation fee.
Less than 3 hours' notice, or no-show: one full class fee.

Where a child is unwell and you can provide a medical certificate, we do our best to be flexible.

There's nothing to claim back afterwards: fees come off your balance class by class, as each one happens, so a class you're not charged for is simply never deducted.

To confirm: Confirm these are the current terms, and how the medical-certificate exception should be worded (discretionary vs. guaranteed). The absence form is the single most-shared link in our chat history — decide whether it belongs on this public page or stays something we send families once their child starts.

It happens occasionally: a teacher falls ill, or is away. Our first step is to arrange a teacher from our team to cover the class. We'll tell you who will be teaching and on which dates, and check that you're happy with it before the class goes ahead.

If we can't cover it, the class simply doesn't run and nothing is deducted. Fees come off your balance class by class, as each one happens, so a class that doesn't happen never costs you anything. Where there's a suitable group at the same level running that week, we'll offer your child a place in it.

We teach year round rather than in school terms, so weekly classes carry on through the school holidays. That's often when families add an extra lesson or two. Camps run Monday to Friday including any public holiday that falls inside the week.

If a particular class can't run on a given date we tell you in advance, and nothing is deducted. Fees only come off your balance as classes actually happen.

No. Textbooks and practice books are separate, at S$10 each. You can buy them from us or source them yourself. For a trial or a first lesson we'll lend your child a copy, so there's nothing to buy before you've decided.

For camps, we offer a group rate of S$750 per camp week when you register two or more children together, or sign up for two or more camps, and this can be combined with the early-bird discount.

Camps run through the school holidays across the year. See holiday camps for current dates and themes. Camps are S$780 per camp week, with an early-bird discount per child (the amount and the cut-off vary by season — see the camp page) and a group / multi-camp rate of S$750 per camp week for two or more children or two or more camps. Both discounts can be combined.

Drop-off is any time between 8:55 and 9:15am. There's a little buffer built in, so a slightly slow morning isn't a problem. Pick-up is 3:00pm sharp: our teachers have commitments straight after camp, so please do be on time.

A helper, grandparent or driver is welcome to do either. Just let us know who to expect.

No. We don't run a transport service, so drop-off and pick-up are at the centre. Excursion days are the exception: the children travel there and back with their teachers by private bus, and you still drop off and collect at the centre as usual.

Yes. A home-cooked, healthy Chinese lunch and two snacks are included every day. Children are welcome to bring along whatever they like to eat as well. Please tell us about allergies or dietary requirements in advance so we can plan for them.

To confirm: Snack count needs settling before this is published. Ana tells parents "lunch and 2 snacks" consistently ("午餐和两次点心" ×10, "lunch and 2 snacks" ×10 across the corpus), and three of the four camp entries in camps.ts agree — but h2SharedHighlights, which drives the current autumn and winter camps, says one snack. Either the upcoming camps genuinely serve one and camps.ts:432/455 is right, or it's a typo. Fix camps.ts to match whichever is true.

Camps are conducted entirely in Mandarin, so children should be comfortable following it, typically around six months of regular Mandarin exposure at home or in school, or the equivalent of about 60 hours of Chinese classes.

Children arrive with very different levels of confidence and take part happily all the same, and our teachers are used to looking after the quiet ones. If your child is a complete beginner, a camp is the wrong place to start. A few one-to-one lessons first will build enough listening to make the week enjoyable rather than bewildering.

The beginner steer and the 60-hour yardstick are both hers ("If your kid is a complete beginner, I'd advise to have some 1-1 classes to build some basic understanding at least"; "Or equivalent of 60 hour of Chinese classes"). Note this now gives two yardsticks — six months' exposure (from camps.ts) and 60 hours — so confirm they're consistent, or drop one.

Camps are capped at 20 children per week, split into age-appropriate groups, with several teachers on site. A full week usually has four. Weeks vary: some fill up, others run with around ten children.

Ask us and we'll tell you how many are signed up for the week you're looking at, and roughly what ages. Parents often want to know their child will have someone their own age there.

Ask us and we'll tell you exactly where a week stands. Some fill up and go onto a waiting list. Others still have plenty of room. Places are only held once payment is received, so a week can fill up between your asking and your deciding.

If the week you want is full, we'll add you to the list and tell you the moment a place opens.

Yes. Camps run across the school holidays through the year: September for the local school break, October for the international school holidays and December over Christmas, as well as the summer weeks from June to August.

Dates and themes are settled closer to the time and go up on our holiday camps page. If you're planning further ahead than that, message us and we'll tell you as soon as a season is announced.

Yes, though a camp is designed as a five-day arc and children get the most out of the full week. Part-weeks are pro-rated from the camp fee, usually with a small fee for holding the place across the week. Tell us which days you want and we'll quote you.

A single day is possible if something comes up at short notice, but it isn't something we'd recommend.

To confirm: Deliberately no formula. Ana's usual rule is pro-rate + a S$50 slot-taken fee, applied on top of the group rate too ("sgd650=750/5days*4days+sgd50", and "SGD780/5days*1day+SGD50=SGD206") — but at least one multi-camp booking was quoted with no S$50 at all ("750/5days*2days*2kids=600"). Publishing a single formula would contradict a real invoice either way, so we quote instead. Confirm the wording, and whether half days are still offered.

Tell us as soon as you know. Cancelling 2 weeks or more before the camp starts is refunded in full; at least 1 week before is refunded 50%; inside the final week there is no refund.

If your child falls ill or your plans change, ask us anyway. Where another camp week has space we'll do our best to move your child to it rather than cancel.

If we have to cancel a camp, you receive a full refund, and we let you know at least a week ahead so you have time to make other plans.

We ask you once, when you sign up, whether we may photograph your child. If you say no, we don't photograph your child at all, and nothing of theirs goes to our website or social media. You still stay in the parents' group and receive the daily album like everyone else. You can change your answer at any time by telling us.
